COVID-safe McMahons Point apartment sells for around $7.5m

A north shore apartment that could be one of Australia’s most COVID-safe when it comes to access, has sold for around $7.5 million.

The whole-floor home at G.01/3 East Crescent St, McMahons Point, is a four-bedroom garden apartment in the boutique block The Bradfield.

It had been on the open market for a few months last year, with Adrian Bridges and Taylor Jones, of LJ Hooker Avnu, but was taken off as Christmas approached.

Mr Bridges said they continued to show the property off-market with a plan to ramp up marketing this year.

They won’t have to now, after a keen buyer made a move just before Christmas.

“The buyer was an empty nester couple from the north shore – they loved the fact that it had a garden,” he said.

He was tight-lipped about the exact sale price, but confirmed it had sold for around the $7.5 million price guide.

“It goes to show that the market can withstand COVID and lockdowns,” Mr Bridges said.

“I think the 2021 market is going to be gangbusters.”

The sale is also a huge vote of confidence in the Sydney apartment market, which struggled in parts during 2020.

Apartment living can be tricky during a pandemic, given the fact that one of the best weapons against COVID-19 is avoiding close social interaction, especially in confined and communal spaces.

The virus is known to be contracted through contact with surfaces touched by infected people, and if you live in an apartment, getting into your home can be fraught with COVID challenges, from pushing the button on the lift, to sharing the lift, common areas and even touching communal door handles.
